There are two rare inherited conditions that can have a direct influence, and they are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Dentinogenesis imperfecta <\/strong>can affect both primary (baby) and adult teeth and causes grayish, transparent tooth enamel that is also quite brittle.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Amelogenesis imperfecta <\/strong>causes the enamel to appear yellow-brown and be more prone to chipping and breaking.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>So what is the other scenario?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Like Mother Like Son\u2026<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A person\u2019s risk for staining can increase if they frequently indulge in richly colored foods and drinks that contain pigments that stick to the enamel. But, aspects of the enamel itself can make it more likely to stain. People with thinner enamel are at a higher risk of staining compared to those with thicker enamel. And as you might have guessed, your genetics directly influence this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Can You Do?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether you have one of the genetic conditions touched on above or naturally weak enamel, that does NOT mean you just need to settle for a less-than-perfect smile.
